COMPOSER NOTES
A lilting, fresh setting of the beloved hymn tune Lasst uns erfreuen. Practical for choirs. Fun for the pianist. A whole new take on a familiar classic. In this "easy and sunny" setting, St. Francis's beloved "All Creatures" hymn is gentle enough for a prayer response and joyful enough for a featured anthem. The grace notes should be subtle and nearly simultaneous with the main notes. The wonder of the "alleluia" refrains is notated in 3+3+2 rhythmic patterns, sometimes coinciding with standard 2/2 rhythms. Since the rhythmic tension between the meters creates useful excitement, the conductor has permission to conduct the entire piece in a 4 pattern, (modified to de-emphasize 2 and 4). A quarter note pulse can also rein in any inclination to rush. I hope your choir will enjoy my contemporary take on a worship favorite! — Tim Harbold All creatures lift your voice and sing, up to the heavens, let it ring! Alleluia, alleluia! Bright burning sun with golden gleam, Sweet silver moon with softer gleam. Sing your praises, alleluia. Sing your praises, alleluia, alleluia. Swift rushing wind so wild and strong, High clouds that sail in heav'n along. Alleluia, alleluia. Bright rising morn in praise rejoice, Soft evening stars find your voice, Sing your praises, alleluia. Sing your praises, alleluia, alleluia. Come now with pure and tender heart, Forgiving others, take your part. Alleluia, alleluia. Let us our Creator bless. Worship God with humbleness. Sing your praises, alleluia. Sing your praises, alleluia, alleluia. |
